The lab was busy cooking Korean street foods! Kimbap, bulgogi, kimchi fried rice, tteokbokki, and geot jeori were great. Most of all, making Bingsu together after the dinner was the highlight of the day!
Edward joined the lab! He is the first Developmental and Stem Cell Biology program student in the team and will be jointly supervised by Dr. Jacob Young investigating the neural circuit of glioma. Welcome Edward and we are excited to have you onboard!
Cathryn received the prestigious Sontag DSA award for her project entitled "Cellular and circuit-level reorganization of neural networks by diffuse infiltrating glioma". This funding will support our work in glioma neuroscience in collaboration with Dr. Shawn Hervey-Jumper.
Ike decided to join the lab! He is the first MSTP student to join the team, and will bring a computational/machine learning perspective to our ongoing projects on image analysis and sequencing-based connectomics to better understand brain function. We look forward to seeing what he will…
Cadwell Lab escape room challenge. First place goes to: Alexis, Donovan, Ike, Yewon, Urvashi and Rahul. Kids (+ Kevin) placed second. And in last place but still out before the end of the hour: Jeffrey, Maddie, Sangeetha, Cathryn and Hanh. Cathryn only screamed once, and there were minimal injuries…
We are excited to welcome Sangeetha Ramachandran from the BMS graduate program to the lab! Sangeetha will be exploring cellular and circuit-level mechanisms of epilepsy using primary tissue and organoid models.
Donovan and Cathryn both attended the American Association of Neuropathologists. Donovan presented some preliminary data on mechanisms of glioma-induced neuronal hyperexcitability, and received a travel award to attend!
We are excited to welcome the second graduate student to join the Cadwell lab - Urvashi Thopte from the UCSF Tetrad graduate program! Urvashi will apply functional genomic strategies to study mechanisms of areal specification in the human brain.
